On October 26, 2017, over 600 people gathered at the Marriott Marquis Houston to celebrate our 2017 honorees at the 32nd Annual Women on the Move Luncheon. All proceeds from the luncheon support Texas Executive Women's mentoring programs in Houston-area high schools and scholarships for young women. Thirty mentees attended the luncheon with their mentors. Each Honoree was invited to the Stage when the song she chose as the one that "got her dancin" was played. A video of each Honoree’s life journey, produced by Lisa Malosky, the Mistress of Ceremonies, wowed the crowd. Mayor Sylvester Turner welcomed everyone, acknowledging the incredible contributions of women in our community and in his own administration. Melissa Wilson, co-anchor on Fox 26 News and the key note speaker, spoke of her own career challenges and how she was able to overcome those challenges, providing words of encouragement for all.
Co-chairs Susan Soussan and Chastiti Horne worked hard with their committees to make this luncheon one of the most successful in the history of Women on the Move and attributed their great success to “this year's extraordinary Honorees, the community who came out to support these women, TEW'S mission, and the dedication of TEW'S administrator."
Amazing Pop-up shops owned by local designers were stationed outside the Houston Ballroom before and after the event. A portion of their proceeds also benefitted the WOM Scholarship Program. The Houston Rockets donated a package to the lucky winner of a drawing from donation cards.
We sincerely thank all of our sponsors and supporters of this year's Women on the Move and Rising Star.
