Bridgett Matthes, Chief Litigation Counsel for Corebridge Financial (formerly known as AIG Life & Retirement), joined the Company in 2013 after over a decade as a business defense litigator at Houston, Texas firm— Horne Rota Moos. She began her in-house career at Corebridge on the litigation team and has now returned to lead it. In her first role, Bridgett managed a national litigation docket for the life and retirement businesses. In 2017, she transitioned to a business legal role as leader of the Life Insurance Business Legal Team, providing practical end-to-end legal advice on product manufacturing, underwriting, marketing, consumer and regulatory inquiries and operations. In 2021, Bridgett broadened her legal and business acumen by joining the Regulatory Legal Team where her focus was the management of the legal and regulatory body of work related to the domestic life insurance companies’ state exams, filings, and inquiries. She also provided and continues to provide legal guidance on emerging industry regulatory issues such as unfair discrimination, big data, genetic testing, and artificial intelligence. Bridgett has served on AIG’s nationally recognized Pro Bono Program Committee since 2019. In addition to supporting AIG pro bono partner organizations around the globe, she has served nearly twenty years as a court-appointed guardian ad litem with Child Advocates, as a voice for children in foster care. She also serves on its Board of Directors. For her work with Child Advocates and the AIG Pro Bono Program, Bridgett was named an AIG “Top 20” Pro Bono Volunteer in 2015, awarded the Thomas Russo Pro Bono Service Award for Outstanding Leadership and Dedication in 2018, and recipient of the AIG Life & Retirement 2020 Community Spirit Award. Bridgett holds a B.S. in Journalism/Public Relations from the University of Texas at Austin (1996) and a J.D. from South Texas College of Law in Houston (1999).
