For over 40 years, Women on the Move has recognized exceptional women whose professional achievements, leadership and commitment to community have helped shape Houston.

Since 1979, the membership of Texas Executive Women (TEW) has included some of Houston’s most influential and successful women in Houston. In 1985, TEW expanded its legacy with the creation of Women on the Move, an annual recognition honoring 10 exceptional women.
Soon after, the Texas Executive Women Scholarship Fund was established. Since its inception, the fund has helped positively change the lives of thousands of girls through scholarships, educational field trips and individualized mentoring.
As a non-profit organization, donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
In 1985, the Sakowitz family was among the most successful business families in Texas. Robert Sakowitz believed strongly that the Houston’s accomplished businesswomen should be recognized for their professional achievements and contributions to the community.
He brought his idea and passion for it to another influential Texas family, the Hobbys. At the time, the Hobbys owned the Houston Post and a local television station – ideal resources to spread the word and gather nominations for the first-ever Women on the Move class.
The response was overwhelming. From the beginning, Sakowitz insisted that the 20 finalists – and ultimately the 10 women selected each year – represent the best of Houston. Expectations were high, not only for professional achievement, but for meaningful community service as well.
That legacy continues today as the 10 Women on the Move are recognized annually at the Women on the Move Luncheon. Thanks to generous corporate and individual supporters, the luncheon is the primary source of funding for the Texas Executive Women Scholarship Fund and mentoring programs.
Women on the Move considers every corporate and personal sponsorship an investment in the future. There are many deserving non-profits in Houston, and we believe our mission is unique because the impact of education, mentoring, and opportunity can last a lifetime.
Our 2026 Women on the Move Luncheon will be held on December 8, 2026.
